Pool and Swim Team

A unique characteristic of Lusk Developments during the late 1950's was the inclusion of neighborhood swimming pools.  As conceived by Lusk, an undeveloped lot was deeded to the Indian Ridge Homeowners Association in 1956.  Through pool membership bond sales, the association was able to raise $24,283 for the construction costs and in 1957 the sparkling new facility was opened.  membership cards were issued and a membership patch was sewn to each swimsuit.  During the 1970's many homes in the neighborhood had private pools built and pool membership declined dramatically with only a few loyal pool supporters still residing in the neighborhood.  Each year fundraisers are held to help keep the pool operating like it would have in the 1950's.  The pool is listed as a contributing property to the Historic District being a major integral part of the subdivision's development.

The pool was finished late spring of 1957 and the Indian Ridge Swim Team was established that summer.  It is one of the oldest running swim teams in the greater Tucson area with an average swim team around 100 members each season, ages 4 to 18 from across the Tucson community.  The team is one of the few that offers a pre-swim age group, "The Tadpoles" which gives 4 & 5 year olds the opportunity to learn beginning strokes and other swim skills.  The swim team is non profit and governed by the guidelines of the Southern Arizona Aquatic Association.  Olympian bronze medalist Caitlin Leverenz, who was a member of the 2012 USA Olympic Swim Team, has ties to the Indian Ridge pool.  She not only swam for Indian Ridge for a number of summers but also swam for El Dorado Aquatics Club that practiced at the pool for several winter seasons.  Former Indian Ridge Swim Team Coach Franz Ressequie was Caitlin's full time coach here in Tucson.
